Roadtrip 2023 Spring: Seaside - Waldport - Bend - Rock Creek Schoolhouse - Richland

Day 34 - Ol' Towns along Ol' US 30

Rodeos are a really big deal in these parts. Haines and Elgin, another small town to the north, both feature large rodeo grounds. This is a small nod to the activity - on the schoolhouse property.

As soon as we hit the interstate - the inevitable truck racing begins.

We catch our first glimpse of the hypersonic blades.

Where the Burnt River turns to meet up with the Snake.

In order to keep Truck entertained, we play a game of hide and seek. Trucks are terrible at hide and seek - but we let her win anyways.

We scored some sandwiches at the Sweet Wife bakery in Baker City. We planned for a riverside picnic - but were thwarted by well, essentially no nice places to set down our swag. So back to this lovely little Lion's Park sandwiched between the railyard and the burned out remains of historic downtown Huntington.

The Renewed Topographics - Huntington Oregon 2023

We find the the Wildfire Lab in Huntington. The giveaway is that antenna.

Hypersonic food processor blades on their way to the McDonald's Proving Grounds in Eastern Oregon.

The biggest little shack in Durkee. Yes, that is a town.

The Pleasantest motel in Pleasant Valley. Wendy wouldn't let me out of the truck to investigate this one.

A better bet in Baker City.

Trains run constantly through the Baker Valley - luckily for us - the schoolhouse is far enough from the tracks that we only hear the muffled horn as they roll through Haines.
